Gig: Alice Boyd presents From The Understory at St. George's Bristol

  • St George’s Bristol Great George Street (off Park Street) Bristol, BS1 5RR (map)

Alice Boyd presents her debut EP From The Understory exploring our evolutionary journey and interconnectedness with plant life through a rich arrangement of voices, electronics and analogue textures.

The music was developed as part of Alice’s residency at the Eden Project, Cornwall – home to the world’s largest indoor rainforest. Alice spent a fascinating week in the Rainforest Biome with her hand-crafted Arduino device recording conductivity data, which fluctuates as water moves around plants. She converted this data into musical notes and fed it through her synthesisers, forming the electronic bed of the music.

Alice is joined by artists Dazey and zha, inspired by groups such as Dirty Projectors and Deep Throat Choir. The pieces will be woven together with interludes by writer Natasha Kaeda, whose storytelling will explore our relationship with the ecosystems we live in. Guest performer to join the bill – to be confirmed.

“Alice’s music brings together a unique combination of sweet vocal harmonies, throbbing electronic textures and sounds from the Rainforest Biome never before heard by humans. Together these beautifully reframe the urgency of the climate crisis into an opportunity for reconnection with nature.” – Sir Tim Smit KBE, Co-Founder of Eden Project and Executive Vice Chair of EPL
