I’m trying to send short emails where possible. Here’s why…

I always appreciate someone reaching out via email, however I’m finding I have limited time to respond. The number of emails we receive is going up and I imagine I’m not the only one who feels a bit frazzled by the admin! Here’s some more information about why email produces increasing amounts of work for us.

So, I’m trying to follow the Email Charter to reduce my impact on your inbox where possible.

Here’s what I’m trying to do. I’ll…

  1. Try to keep my emails to around 5 sentences (I may break this for introductory emails, etc.)

  2. Add clarity to subject lines so you know what my email is about before opening it

  3. Make my questions specific. E.g. I’ll try to save a question like ‘what are your thoughts?’ for a phone call

  4. Take you out of Cc if you don’t need to be there/can be updated in a different way

  5. Reduce the waffle (let’s waffle over the phone sometime instead)

Some good books I’ve read recently on the subject:

‘How To Do Nothing: Resisting the Attention Economy’ - Jenny Odell

‘Four Thousand Weeks: Time and How To Use It’ - Oliver Burkeman

‘Good Burdens: How to Live Joyfully in the Digital Age’ - Christina Cook
